  • Performance testing and accuracy

Key Takeaways & Insights

  • Tourbillon watches were originally designed in the late 1700s to counteract gravity’s effect on mechanical watch accuracy but are now mostly luxury novelties.
  • The Agiloser 9001 A1 is a genuine mechanical tourbillon watch available at a significantly lower price point than typical luxury tourbillons.
  • The watch features a skeletonized dial and back, allowing a full view of the intricate movement and tourbillon mechanism.
  • It has an in-house movement with an 80-hour power reserve, 28,800 bph beat rate, and includes shock protection.
  • The watch’s case is well-finished with a combination of brushed and polished 316L stainless steel, and sapphire crystals front and back.
  • Accuracy testing showed a positive result of about +4 seconds per day, though there was a somewhat high beat error indicating possible regulation issues.
  • Despite being affordable, the watch offers impressive craftsmanship, materials, and movement quality that rival much more expensive models.

Actionable Strategies

  • Monitor the price of the Agiloser 9001 A1 before purchasing, as it fluctuates and can be found on sale (Black Friday price noted at $778.68).
  • Use appropriate tools like a timegrapher for more accurate movement testing rather than relying solely on smartphone apps.
  • Consider strap customization to suit personal style, such as replacing the supplied glossy crocodile leather strap with a different leather strap for comfort and aesthetics.
  • Take advantage of the warranty and included maintenance tools like the microfiber cloth for upkeep.

Specific Details & Examples

  • Case dimensions: 40mm width, 10.7mm thickness, 47mm lug-to-lug, 20mm lug width, weight 69g.
  • Water resistance: 5 bar (~50 meters).
  • Movement: Agiloser caliber A9001 A hand-wound mechanical movement, 25 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour, 80-hour power reserve via two mainsprings, Incabloc shock protection, non-hacking.
  • Presentation includes a branded cardboard box, padded teal watch box, warranty certificate (2 years), warranty card, instruction manual, and hang tag.
  • Accuracy test via Watch Accuracy Meter app: +4 seconds/day with 1.3 ms beat error.
  • The watch features a sapphire crystal with slight curvature and a mix of brushed and polished finishes on the case and lugs.
  • Two sets of lug holes accommodate both curved and straight strap ends.
  • Loud ticking sound noted during quiet environments.

Warnings & Common Mistakes

  • The high beat error measured suggests possible regulation issues with the movement, so buyers might want to verify accuracy with professional equipment.
  • The loud ticking noise can be bothersome in quiet settings.
  • Legibility on skeletonized dials is inherently limited, although this model improves it slightly with beveling and finishing on the hands.
  • The branding text on the dial is considered plain and could have been better designed.
  • Beware of generic Chinese watches falsely marketing open-heart designs as tourbillons; this model is confirmed as a true mechanical tourbillon.

πŸ“ Transcript (283 entries):

it was in the late 1700s back when mechanical pocket watches were the only watches in existence that watchmakers were faced with the need to overcome the effects of gravity on the accuracy of those movements a Swiss French watchmaker named Abraham Luis burgay yes that same one developed a complication that would be added to Mechanical movements he mounted the balance and escapement wheels inside of a rotating cage with the ambitious goal of eliminating the effects of the force of gravity fast forward to over 200 years later and tourbillons are mainly used as a novelty feature most commonly found in luxury watches costing thousands and even tens of thousands of dollars but what if I told you that there is an actual mechanical turbian watch that you can purchase for well under one thousand dollars hi guys welcome to my affordable watch collection my name is Aviv and today we are taking an in-depth look at a beautifully crafted skeletonized tourbillon watch coming from a brand that had no idea how to pronounce its name until I had them send me a voice clip with the correct pronunciation the agilo sir 9001 A1 this watch was sent to me from the company for free for review and I don't have to send it back keep that in mind as you watch this video but rest assured that other than providing the watch age losser had nothing to do with the content of this review you are going to get my own honest opinion of this and any other watch I review though it is hard to determine by the information on their website agiloser is a Chinese brand they're a bit vague about that talking about Swiss inspiration but they are based in China this model has four different colorways available in agilosershop.com I've seen its price fluctuate between 800 and something US Dollars and upwards of a thousand US dollars but it is currently listed for 778.68 on their Black Friday sale if you are watching this after the sale is over and you are thinking of buying this watch it might be worth tracking the price for a while to see when it is offered for Less the presentation of the watch looks pretty good inside a branded cardboard box you'll find an elongated and padded watch box in a nice teal color besides the watch you get a signed warranty certificate that is good for two years a microfiber cleaning cloth a hard plastic warranty card a little hang tag and an instruction manual covering every watch agilaster makes let's get the measurements the width of the case is 40 millimeters its thickness is 10.7 millimeters the distance between the legs is 20 millimeters lock tip to lag tip is 47 millimeters and the watch weighs 69 grams the stated water resistance is 5 bar roughly equivalent to 50 meters the dial is keltonized all the different parts of the movement the mainsprings rubies the gears screws and of course that single axis tourbillon complication at the six o'clock are clearly visible and are held in place on black Bridges the coolest thing with this kind of dials besides seeing the movement at work is that you can see through the back of the watch when you look at its front there's a re-hot ring surrounding the dial with brushed and Polished and multifaceted Arrowhead indices applied on it little grooves carved into the ring itself Mark the minutes and the Brand's name is printed in white at the 12 o'clock position I find the handset used here very interesting I would describe the hour in minute hands as multifaceted and fancy sword style hands they are brushed on top and Polished on their bevels there's no Loom anywhere on this watch the Crystal covering the dial is a scratch resistant Sapphire with just a gentle curvature to it it really is the slightest of dumbness to the point it's almost unnoticeable but it does add a lot of character to the watch the case is made of 316l stainless steel and is one of the nicest finish cases I've ever seen it features a mixture of brushed and Polished finishes both done very well the tops of the lugs and the mid section of the side of the case are finely brushed and the bezel the chamfered edges of the lugs and the top and bottom parts of the sides are highly polished to a very high standard the legs are short and curved down quite a bit to meet your wrist one interesting bit of detail is that the inside of the lugs have two separate sets of holes to fit two different types of straps the innermost set can be used when you use a strap with curved ends like the ones supplied with the watch and the other set is for regular straight edge straps that are more common the crown at the three o'clock position is signed with an embossed AG losser logo it's a push-pull type of crown that doesn't screw down twist it up to hand wind the movement you'll see both coils build tension as you do that and pull it out to set the time the watch's back is almost as beautiful as its front it features a large screw down exhibition case back that is covered by yet another sapphire crystal the agilosa design team didn't skip on the back of the skeletonized movement and it does look seriously cool with some custom signed parts the stainless steel that holds it in place has some of the watches information engraved on it the movement we are seeing is actually an in-house movement made by AG loser which is pretty impressive this is the caliber a9001 a hand one mechanical movement that beats at a high bit rate of 28 800 beats per hour and has 25 joules it has 80 hours of power Reserve achieved by two mainsprings that wind one after the other in addition to the tourbillon complication the movement also features an Inca block shock protection system that further protects the movement against drops and blows it doesn't hack which isn't really an issue since you don't have a second hand to hack anyway putting this movement to the test with the watch accuracy meter app is particularly interesting as it reveals a very good accuracy of plus 4 seconds per day on the one hand but a pretty high beat error of 1.3 milliseconds on the other hand this might indicate a regulation issue with this specific movement the watch comes on a decent leather strap it has a glossy black crocodile pattern top and an orange bottom curved ends with quick release spring bars and the folding clasp that closes with friction here it is on my 7-inch wrist here is your proof that the skeleton watch can be dressy size is good it's not too tall and it sure does look like a luxury watch to me if you saw someone wearing this watch would you suspect it's a sub 1 000 Chinese watch I'm not sure I would legibility is never going to be all that good on skeletonized watches but the beveled edges and the brushed tops of the hands make it easier to read the time on this watch than on other skeletonized watches I've looked at in the past the leather strap needs some breaking in but since glossy Croc straps are not really my thing check out how good it looks on this black Italian leather strap from vario let's go over the pros and cons cons first like I said in the intro this is a beautifully crafted timepiece but it's not without its shortcomings such an intricate watch with luxury specs and a relatively affordable price is bound to have a few the first thing is that High beat error that might be a cause for concern that being said it is worth remembering that I did use an Android app to test the movement's accuracy E2 has its limitations and while being reliable for the most part it is not 100 accurate on its own Perhaps it is worth testing it further with an actual time grapher besides that the ticking sound is pretty loud and can be a nuisance when you're in a quiet environment and the last thing and this might just be me nitpicking I think the IG loss or text on the dial looks a bit too plain I'm not sure how it could have been done differently but the font they used and the way it is printed on is a bit meh on the probe side while many affordable watches coming from China are trying to pass an open heart design showing off a regular balance wheel as a tourbillon this 9001a1 is the real deal it might not be a cheap watch but it's probably one of the most affordable and attainable true tourbillon watches in the world right now it demonstrates fine craftsmanship and great choice of materials a sapphire sandwich cased in beautifully finished stainless steel a good quality leather strap and an in-house movement that is well finished and decorated and just fun to look at let me know what you guys think by dropping a comment below if you
